Tony Binkley, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Greater East Tennessee, watched TikTok videos with WATE about the supposed availability of unbelievable free money.

In the word of Binkley, “They’re targeting people who may be desperate, let’s just use that word, to get free $6,400 from the government. And they want you to act quickly, act now. And there are people like this telling you it is real and it’s not real”.

How Does $6,400 Subsidy Scam Work?

There are viral videos promoted by influencers on TikTok using to convince the public — The automated voice says, “Yes, the 6,400 credits are real. I can help you qualify for that quickly. Before we proceed, I need to ask you a few questions. It won’t take more than a couple of minutes.”

Too Good To Be True

An influencer is seen saying not to believe everything about the offer. She explains that the subsidy is only for insurance.

Binkleys put words out , “These ads are very misleading, they tell you that you can get this subsidy and pay for groceries, utilities, pay your bills and all of that. However, that is not true. The subsidy is going to go straight to the insurance carrier,”

Warning To Beware of The Scam

Another Tiktok user has warned the members of the public to steer clear the scam.

“Don’t get trapped into it. There is no subsidy going on from the government or anything. It’s all a scam. Okay, guys. Make sure, bye,” said the influencer.

“They don’t want you to wait or talk to others to find out the truth. They want you to trust them,” said Binkley. “To find the truth, just search for the $6,400 government grant. You’ll see many official sources saying it’s not real.”
