In the lawsuit, Nationwide Vision and Sightcare did not put in place adequate cybersecurity measures to prevent a data breach in 2021. This breach exposed sensitive data belonging to patients and employees. The plaintiffs argue that the company’s failure to protect this data was negligent and broke state consumer protection laws.

Nationwide Vision denies any wrongdoing or liability but has admitted to pay $3.45 million to resolve the data breach in a lawsuit.

Class members can get either a proportional cash payment or be reimbursed for their actual losses from the data breach.

People who are current or former patients, customers, employees, members, or covered dependents of Nationwide Optometry, Nationwide Vision Center, and Sightcare may have had their information exposed due to a data breach between April 20, 2021, and May 17, 2021.
