In the video is a bunch of tomatoes that quickly change to cats, all squirming around erratically and blipping in and out of existence in ways that no actual cat could physically move.

The viral “Tomato Cats” video on TikTok, which has taken the platform by storm in 2024, appears to have been created using AI video generators like VEED.IO or similar platforms. It is however an AI Video that is used lure users with a compelling headline or an intriguing thumbnail, urging them to click on the link to watch the video.

How We Discovered That The Tomato Cats Video Post Was Not Real.

Here’s how we uncovered the scam:

  • The Tomato Cats Video was shared through dubious accounts or websites that were unfamiliar, lacking any credibility or previous trustworthy content. These accounts often lacked followers, had little interaction, or seemed hastily created, which raised suspicions.
  • The videos also looked fake, the cats appearance were unusual, as it was created by computer graphics. The tomatoes slowly turns into cats, and the cats also has tails appearing at both ends. The creature keeps switching between looking like a cat and looking like tomato.
  • Clicking on the link for the video did not lead to mainstream or well-known platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook. Instead, users were redirected to external websites that looked suspicious. The URLs were long, confusing, or unfamiliar, which was the first red flag.
  • Upon landing on these external sites, users were prompted to log in with their social media credentials or fill out surveys before they could view the video.
  • Some versions of the scam instructed users to download a special plugin or software to play the video. This is a common trick used by scammers to install malware or spyware onto users’ devices.
